Prayer – Conversing with our loving heavenly Father
He then told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not become discouraged. – Luke 18:1
Prayer – the concept is so simple – to communicate with the Almighty God through our thoughts, expressed both silently and verbally. Yet, why would the all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal God need to hear from me? He certainly doesn’t need me to make Him aware of my situation or my needs. And if I ask for something, what if I ask for something that is not in my best interests? And God rarely speaks with people audibly, so how do I even knows He hears me, or that He has responded?
Well, without God’s Word, those questions would go unanswered. But in fact we have been given much information concerning prayer in the Bible. And if you haven’t done so lately, read the promises God makes to those who pray, a few of which are listed below. God promises that if you humbly and sincerely pray to HIm, His Holy Spirit will guide your thoughts and stir your soul such that you will KNOW that you are communing with the God of heaven! Here then are just a few verses on prayer from the Bible:
The LORD is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous. – Proverbs 15:29
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The urgent request of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. – James 5:16
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. – 1 Peter 3:12
For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened…And if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. – Matthew 7:8; 21:22
Until now you have asked for nothing in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. – John 16:24
