Minor Prophets

About the Minor Prophets

The Minor Prophets consists of the books of Hosea, Joel, Amos, ObadiahJonahMicahNahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi. These books are “minor” only in that they are much shorter in length than the “Major” prophets. But the minor prophets may be compared to atomic bombs – small in size, but powerful in their impact. Time period during which these book were written were:

  • Hosea: Written circa 755 to  710 B.C.
  • Joel: Written c. 835 B.C.
  • Amos: Written c. 755 B.C.
  • Obadiah: Written c. 848 to 841 B.C.
  • Jonah: Written c. 773-755 B.C.
  • Micah: Written c. 735-710 B.C.
  • Nahum: Written c. 663-612 B.C.
  • Habakkuk: Written c. 609-597 B.C.
  • Zephaniah: Written c. 630-625 B.C.
  • Haggai: The various chapters of Haggai can be precisely dated to the times of their writing, which include: 1 & 24 SEP 520; 21 OCT 520; 24 DEC 520 B.C.
  • Zechariah: The various chapters of Zechariah can also be precisely dated to the times of their writing, which are: NOV 520; 24 FEB 519; 4 DEC 518 B.C.
  • Malachi: Written c. 432-425 B.C.
